Many ancient postpartum care traditions consider birth to be a cooling experience, and that in order to heal, the mom needs to be 'warmed' in as many ways as possible, including the direct application of warming herbs and oils to the body.
These warming practices, which are also called Mother Roasting, also include warming foods, hot stone massage, belly wrapping, moxa application, and several others and are all beneficial for new moms to receive within the first 40 days after giving birth.
