OVERVIEW

Our Tangerine is direct from an established manufacturer (since 1985) in Florida with access to some of the freshest fruit available. It is a delightful essential oil that has a sparkling, fresh, sweet, and tangy aroma with a bright, juicy citrus note similar to and more subtle than mandarin. Tangerine essential oil is said to help cheer, inspire, and strengthen and to be a favorite of children and pregnant women.

The Dancy variety is considered to be one of the oldest Tangerines grown in Florida, via Tangiers, Morocco. By some reports, this tree was planted as early as 1867 in the groves of a Colonel F. L. Dancy, to whom the name is attributed. Historically, Tangerine essential oil has been one of the citrus components in the many variations of the popular Eau de Cologne first developed in the early 1700s; modern perfumers often use it to provide 'lift' and, as perfumer Christine Nagel states, for its "fizzy, joyful, luminous effect in a fragrance."

Essential oils of citrus peels are familiar to those who handle the fruits. It is easy to observe the "dehydrating" quality of these oils by observing the hands after peeling an orange. The extremely volatile monoterpene hydrocarbons (predominantly limonene) that comprise citrus peel aromas quickly evaporate, leaving a dry, white residue on the skin. This drying nature may be useful in cases of damp or waterlogged skin, but avoided for dry and dehydrated skin. Botanically speaking and ever poetic, Marcel Lavabre describes the fragrance of Tangerine oil as "almost exotic," adding that the therapeutics of citrus peel oils "concerns the interaction of warmth and fluid in the body" and that Tangerine in particular is a boon to soothing nervous tension.

Citrus peel oils are used industrially as effective solvents for removing grease and cleaning mechanical parts, hence their potential for skin irritation if used undiluted. One of the best applications for all citrus peel oils is in the diffuser, where their uplifting aromas and air freshening powers truly shine.
