OVERVIEW
Organic Juniper Berry essential oil from Bulgaria has a very fine, fresh woody-green aroma indicating the distillation process was done with great care - it is completely devoid of harsh notes common to this oil. About 100 kilos of Juniper Berries harvested in September, October, and November yield 1 kilo of essential oil. The essential oil, more often than not, is an inferior extraction of needles and twigs, but true Juniper Berry oil really shines is in its wild freshness and lively character. It is a psychological fortifier of the spirit during times of anxiety, low energy and weakness, as its aroma cleanses the atmosphere of a room and supports centering and meditation practices. The oil used in a sauna or sweat lodge is a perfect application for these purposes.
Juniper Berry is recognizable by some as the characteristic aroma of gin and, for those of Eastern European descent, the distinctive ingredient in traditional cabbage and sauerkraut recipes. While its attributes include a strengthening effect on the nerves, psychologically it is said to uplift the spirits during times of low energy, anxiety and weakness. "The aromatic properties of all parts of Juniper plants have been used against bad magic, plague, and various negative influences in so many cultures, from the Letts to the Chinese to the Pueblo Indians, that there would seem to be some validity to considering the scent as beneficial in general to the human predicament."
