This special organic Sweet Marjoram has a very fresh, warm, sweet/spicy, terpenic and slightly medicinal aroma with a mildly pungent, herbaceous-woody undertone - a truly delightful aromatic scent! All Origanum species are native to Mediterranean regions; the ancient Greeks cultivated it for culinary and medicinal purposes as well as for its aroma.Dioscorides, a 1st century Greek physician and experienced army doctor, concocted an ointment of Marjoram called amaricimum to "warm and strengthen the nerves."

Plants in the botanical family Labiatae - including Marjoram, Oregano, Lavender, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme - have a special predilection for dry rocky slopes, open spaces, and sunny mountains, preferring the median climatic regions around the Mediterranean Sea. Many of the Labiataeplants that grow in these regions are culinary herbs, indicating an affinity for digestive processes.

In terms of Oriental medicine, it is said that Sweet Marjoram has the ability to both strengthen and relax as it tonifies and circulates Qi and calms the mind. It is especially helpful in conditions where tiredness alternates with tension. Relaxing, warming, and comforting, Sweet Marjoram "helps to calm obsessive thinking, ease emotional craving and promote the capacity of inner self-nurturing."
