|Article number:||Lemon Tea Tree EO, 5 mL|
Our Lemon Tea Tree essential oil has a truly wonderful aroma - powerful, diffusive, sparkling, fresh, clean, sweet, Lemony-rosaceous topnotes and heart notes slightly pungent-herbaceous with aldehydic, leafy notes. It is said to be one of the best essential oils for natural insect/mosquito repellants, either on its own or blended with Lemongrass, Patchouli, Lemon Eucalyptus, and other essential oils.
PLEASE NOTE: Although both Lemon Tea Tree and Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) are members of the Myrtaceae family, they have distinctly different aromatherapeutic properties. In addition, Lemon Tea Tree is not related at all to Lemon (Citrus limon). Its common name is derived from a story of Captain Cook’s sailors steeping the leaves of a species of Leptospermum as a substitute for tea. Those sailors were on to something - a high aldehydic content places Lemon Tea Tree among other aldehyde-rich essential oils that have proven to be highly beneficial for those who are experiencing physical discomfort from overexertion, injury, or joint/tendon issues.
Leptospermum petersonii is a slow growing shrub/small tree native to Australia and cultivated in Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and parts of Africa. The bushes do not yield enough leaves for distillation until they are about 10 years old and then it takes one thousand pounds of leaves and terminal branchlets to yield about 10-15 pounds of essential oil. It could be said that Lemon Tea Tree growers are a study in agricultural patience!
