Essential Oils - Quality & Safety

With the popularity of essential oils on the rise, we've been getting a lot more questions about them, so as a part of our on-going effort to be Your Partner in Health, we decided to address some of the most common questions and concerns when it comes to essential oils. The word aromatherapy is often used loosely these days, though when picking oils for true therapeutic purposes it’s vital to use the highest quality available. There are a lot of companies using the term “therapeutic grade” when describing their oils, but this is not a term that is aaccepted a a descriptor for essential oils by majority of the worlds aromartherapy associations. Instead we would rather you understand what it takes to make a high quality oil.

AT GOLDEN POPPY WE TAKE PRIDE IN OFFERING YOU 100% PURE, HIGH QUALITY ESSENTIAL OILS AT FAIR AND AFFORDABLE PRICES. WE SOURCE OILS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE, AND LOOK FOR THOSE DISTILLERS THAT FOLLOW THE PROTOCOL NECESSARY IN PRODUCING SUCH QUALITY OILS.

First, a plant needs to be grown and harvested under certain conditions in order to assure the proper therapeutic constituents are present in the end product. Then, a great deal of care goes into the production of the plants, the distillation process and the after-care of the oil. The companies we buy from can supply the MSDS and analysis sheets for all of their oils, and have organic certifications available upon request.
We always choose the organic option if it is available to order, but it's not possible in all cases.

WE ARE VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THE SAFE USE OF ESSENTIAL OILS.

  • 1. We do not recommend uding essential oils neat on the skin, always dilute them in to a carrier oil before applying to the skin.
  • 2. Keep them out of reach of pets and children
  • 3. Always know the safety precautions for each oil before you use it, for example many oils are photosensitizing or can cause dermalirritation
  • 4. Always do a small patch test on your skin before using an oil all over your body to determine if you have any sensitivities to that particular oil
  • 5. Do not use essenital oils internally
  • 6. Take extra caution with pregnant and nursing women

SAFETY MEASURES

1. If essential oil droplets accidentally get into the eye (or eyes) a cotton cloth or similar should be imbued with a fatty oil, such as olive or sesame, and carefully swiped over the closed lid.18 And / Or, Immediately flush the eyes with cool water. 2. If an essential oil causes dermal irritation, apply a small amount of vegetable oil or cream to the area affected and discontinue use of essential oil or product that has caused dermal irritation. 3. If a child appears to have drunk several spoonfuls of essential oil, contact the nearest poison control unit (often listed in the front of a telephone directory). Keep the bottle for identification and encourage the child to drink whole or 2% milk. Do not try to induce vomiting.19
